The first step in developing your career goals is to assess your personal characteristics: your skills and interests, your likes and dislikes, your strengths and weaknesses. You can then assign your “profile” to a specific job or career goal. You may also want to identify aspects of your current and previous jobs that will help you determine your career goals, such as:
• Required characteristics or skills.
• Aspects of previous jobs that you liked and disliked.
• Skills you develop through education, jobs, hobbies, volunteer work,
clubs, employee organizations and the like.
• Training you have received that you can apply to future employment.
• Specific areas of your performance evaluation rated above or
below satisfactory.
• Your willingness to move or work a different shift than normal.
